The history of UIC-Y coaches at ČSD began in the 1960s. Following an initial preference for the Comecon's OSJD-B standard (delivered from Bautzen in 1964), deliveries of true UIC-Y design cars started in 1965. The ČSD fleet was later expanded with coaches from MVG Győr (1966) and Vagonka Studénka (early 1970s), which also delivered the final UIC-Y cars in 1991. Today, due to ongoing modernizations and refurbishments, original unmodified coaches are rapidly disappearing.
