The series 770 diesel locomotive, originally designated under the older classification system as T 669.0, was manufactured through a collaboration between ČKD Praha and the SMZ Dubnica nad Váhom engineering works. These robust machines were specifically delivered to meet the demanding freight and shunting needs of the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD), as well as numerous heavy industrial plants throughout former Czechoslovakia.
